Day 3 Johannesburg to South Luangwa National Park

At the Johannesburg Airport this morning, board a scheduled flight to Lusaka and continue on to Mfuwe to reach the South Luangwa Valley. The impressive South Luangwa Valley, which marks the end of the Great Rift Valley, is one of the last unspoiled wilderness areas. Observe the oxbow lagoons, woodlands and plains of the valley host huge concentrations of game – elephant, buffalo, leopard, lion, giraffe, hippo and over 400 species of birds. The survival of the valley depends on the winding Luangwa River, which is crowded with hippo, crocodile and wading waterfowl. Today will be the first of many opportunities you will have to photograph African wildlife during your stay at Kapani Camp. Overnight at Kapani Camp (B,L,D)

Day 4 South Luangwa National Park

Kapani, meaning “place of the Mopane trees,” is a luxurious lodge situated on a quiet lagoon beside the Luangwa River, accommodating a maximum of 20 guests in eight standard suites and two “Lagoon Houses”. The brick chalets are built with tiled roofs, high ceilings, overhead fans and large windows. Each bedroom has a private bathroom en suite and a lovely verandah. Delicious meals are served in the open dining room. There is a secluded swimming pool, a shady viewing platform and thatched “chitenge” overlooking the lagoon where guests can relax between game viewing activities. Overnight at Kapani Camp (B,L,D)

Day 5 South Luangwa National Park

Enjoy the activities available at Kapani Lodge such as game drives in open 4x4 vehicles. The area boasts high concentrations of wildlife accustomed to the vehicles, which allows those on safari to get close-up views of the various species. Overnight at Kapani Camp (B,L,D)

Day 6 South Luangwa National Park to Lower Zambezi National Park

After breakfast this morning, guests will transfer from Kapani to their next accommodations. A flight will bring guests from Mfuwe to Lusaka and continue on to Jeki. Upon arrival, transfer to the Lower Zambezi, and accommodations at Sausage Tree Camp.

Nestled among a thick forest of trees on the banks of the Zambezi River in the very heart of the Zambezi National Park, Sausage Tree Camp is comprised of six spacious “Bedouin-style” white canvas tents. The décor is simple and classic. Each tent is privately located with expansive views across the river and includes a private open-air bathroom with hot and cold running water, plus a flush “loo with a view.” Delicious meals are served under giant Sausage and Mahogany trees or in the dining tent with its huge teak table. A “library tent” and a lovely deck overlooking the river provide pleasant places to enjoy a relaxing moment. Overnight at Sausage Tree Camp (B,L,D)

Day 7 Lower Zambezi National Park

Visit the Lower Zambezi National Park, a remote and unspoiled region with stunning scenery and abundant wildlife within a diverse range of eco-systems. Scenic channels dotted with water lilies and hippos, expansive views of the river and distant Zambezi escarpment, the thrill of elephant and buffalo, along with their friends and foes passing through camp all combine to make this an unforgettable safari experience. Overnight at Sausage Tree Camp (B,L,D)

Day 8 Lower Zambezi National Park

Enjoy day and night game drives in open 4-wheel drive safari vehicles; nature walks; bird watching; fishing for the famous fighting Tigerfish, plus Vundu and Bream, canoeing down the tranquil Chifungulu Channel; and bush picnics. This evening, take a “sundowner” cruise in the “banana boat” on the Zambezi River. Overnight at Sausage Tree Camp (B,L,D)
