Bhutan: The Dagala Thousand Lakes Trek

The Kingdom of Bhutan is ancient Asia’s last enclave, hidden in the mighty Himalayas. It is a land that will captivate your senses and one where strangers are still treated as guests. Our six-day trek leads us into one of Bhutan’s breathtaking Himalayan valleys. We follow the path of nomadic yak herders, hiking through thick pine forests, over trout-filled streams, and into a spectacular cirque full of cascading lakes where our views open up to vast mountains and steep valleys. Tour Overview

Days 1-2: Meet in Bangkok and fly as a group to Paro, Bhutan. Drive to the capital city of Thimphu, and visit many of the city’s interesting cultural sites. Acclimatization hikes take us into the surrounding countryside to temples and monasteries accessible only on foot.

Days 3-7: Our six-day trek begins with a short drive to the village of Geynika, where we meet our ponies and support crew. Trek in style as our friendly support team takes care of all the details, from setting up tents to preparing delicious meals. Our route leads us through peaceful villages and climbs from thick forests into the alpine zone. Take your time to acclimatize to the altitude of this region, as our trekking route is between 9,570 feet and 14,500 feet. Spend evenings enjoying varied and delicious camp meals, and lying back and counting the stars in this magnificent landscape.

Days 8-9: Emerge from the mountains in the village of Gangkha, where transport awaits to return us to Paro. During the remaining days in Paro, visit Tiger’s Nest monastery, the Paro Dzong, and the national museum. At a final celebration, toast our adventures in Bhutan and our trek through this mystical kingdom.

Day 10: Depart from Bhutan on our return flight to Bangkok.
