Trip details
Up early to beat the heat, your day will begin by taking water quality samples. This includes sampling from docks and from ground-water wells. Next, the team will go out on a large (36-foot) ferry boat to survey the islands in Elizabeth Harbor. Teams will break into smaller groups to do land surveys of coastal plants or trap and tag fish in the sea. After a picnic lunch on the boat, you’ll return to the dock, unload samples, and rinse equipment. In the afternoons, you may enter data in the lab, work on interpretive material for the environmental education program at the Exuma Education Resource Centre (EERC), or have some time to enjoy the beach. Optional afternoon activities include snorkeling, kayaking, biking, or sailing. In the early evening, teams will help mark the trees and natural features around the educational nature trail at the EERC. Later, the group will meet to review the schedule for the next day, play board games, watch movies, or just hang out.
As an Eons member, you'll get a free, 1 year membership to Earthwatch — a $35 value — when you sign up on any expedition. And members pay $100 less on their expedition contribution — so you save $135! Just put code EONS2007 in the comment field on the signup form, or, if you call, tell the Expedition Coordinator that you found us on Eons.
Earthwatch expedition-related costs may be tax-deductible in the US as volunteer expenses. Please check with your tax adviser.
