Trip details
Day 1: Arrive Lima
Arrive into Lima – the “City of Kings” - cultural, financial and transportation hub of Peru • Your guides meet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel • Dinner on your own at the hotel
Day 2: Lima City Tour
Breakfast followed by a morning tour of the historic center of Lima, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1988, visiting the Paseo de la República, San Martín Square, the Main Square, Government Palace, Basilica Cathedral, the Archbishop's Palace, City Hall Palace, and the old streets with colonial mansions and Moorish-style balconies • Lunch, then visit the Larco Herrera Museum and its collection of pre-Colombian artifacts • Tonight, dinner is on your own.
Day 3: Cusco
Morning flight to the Incan citadel city of Cusco • Guided walking tour visiting the main square of Cusco, the Cathedral, the temple of the sun know as "Korikancha", and the San Blas arts district • Lunch at Huayocari Hacienda • Tonight there is a hosted welcome dinner and trip orientation
Day 4: The Sacred Valley
Tour the impressive fortress ruins of Sacsayhuaman and the Inca site of Qenqo • Hike to the mountainside ruins of Pisac • Visit the local Indian market with its impressive display of handmade textiles and crafts • Check into Sol & Luna and enjoy a traditional Peruvian dinner
Day 5: Moray / Maras Inca Salt Mine
Visit the Chincheros Indian market and participate in a textile workshop • Bike off-road to the Inca site of Moray • Picnic lunch • Shuttle to Maras and bike to the ancient salt pools and mines • Dinner at the colorful and classic Tunupa Restaurant
Day 6: Ollantaytambo / Urubamba River
Explore the ruins of Ollantaytambo • After a safety talk, raft the Class II & III whitewater of the Urubamba River conquering “train station” and “slider” rapids • Lunch at a local community restaurant • (Optional) ride Peruvian Paso Fino horses to the remote Andean community of Cachiccata • A traditional barbecue dinner awaits back at Sol & Luna
Day 7: Inca Trail / Machu Picchu
Travel two hours by train to Kilometer 104 • Meet the Inca Trail and embark on a cloud forest hike to Machu Picchu • Visit the sites of Chachabamba and Wiñay Wayna where we lunch at a waterfall before reaching Intipunku, the “Sun Gate” overlooking Machu Picchu • Time for just a short visit before transferring to the upscale El Pueblo Hotel for lodging and dinner
Day: 8 Machu Picchu
Full morning to explore the mountaintop ruins with a private guide • Lunch at Machu Picchu ruins • Afternoon train ride (in the Vistadome car) back to Cusco • Gather for a farewell dinner at the popular La Retama restaurant followed by some lively music and dancing
Day 9: Cusco to Lima / Flight Home or Optional Tour Extension
