Days 1-2 Geilo
Gather in Geilo • After a picnic lunch of local specialties enjoy a scenic jaunt up a wildflower-lined nature trail to Geilotoppen • Trek beside the 1,000-foot cascade of Hivjufossen (Hiv Waterfall) while gazing at fields of soft heather • Accompanied by the clinking of sheep’s bells, stride across alpine meadows dotted with sheep and seter (summer farmhouses).
Day 3 Flåm
Hike a section of the ancient Aurland Trail in a remote and rugged area—often referred to as Norway’s Grand Canyon—where waterfalls, rivers and wildflowers compose some of the country’s most dramatic scenery • Visit Sinjarheim, a restored farm clinging tenaciously to the steep valley side.
Days 4-6 Balestrand
A train ride ascends 2,800 feet to the outpost of Myrdal • Hike next to the waterfalls that spill into the Flåm Valley • A ferry whisks us across the Sognefjord, Norway’s longest and most breathtaking fjord, to picturesque Balestrand • Visit the pastoral Mundal Valley or hike the steep and challenging 3,000-foot climb to Flatbrehytta • Embark on the Balestølen loop for magnificent fjord views • Complete your adventure with a late-afternoon ferry ride to Bergen.
