The Costa Brava is the northernmost coast of Catalonia and is very rugged,
bold and wild. Salvador Dali, Picasso and Chagall were captivated by this area. Sports such as scuba diving, cliff climbing, and hiking
are available in the national parks. The botanical
garden, Jardi Botanic Mar I Murtra, is spectacularly located above the cliffs with
over 7,000 species of Mediterranean and tropical plants. La Bisbal, a nearby town,
is known for its colorful pottery, tiles and antiques. Wonderful restaurants abound;
in particular, the fish restaurant in Blanes is outstanding. If you are there at
5pm, you can watch the fishermen come in with their catch. The Torres vineyards
are nearby and well worth a visit. Barcelona is conveniently located 40 miles
north and can be reached by train or car.
Villa Ramon is a spectacular
villa built in a hillside pine grove on the coast near Blanes. Residents of this
gated community have the use of a clubhouse, Olympic-sized pool, tennis court,
and a restaurant overlooking the beach, 280 steps down the hill. The views of
the coast and sea are stunning and can be seen from every room in the villa. A
tiled deck surrounds the pool, offering views of the sea. Wooden lounge chairs
and tables and umbrellas create a wonderful area to relax or enjoy a leisurely
meal; a gas grill is available. A common room located off the pool area cleverly
utilized the stone walls as a waterfall during heavy rains, with comfortable chairs,
a kitchenette, and full bath with shower. Divided into four separate suites, we think Villa Ramon is an excellent choice for groups of family or friends who wish to spend time together and also desire privacy.
The
owner is willing to greet the guests at the airport. He is available for tours
and sightseeing in his native Catalunya. He provides start-up supplies such as
bottled water, bread, cheese, eggs, and of course, champagne.
