EL PINO

Cabrils, a small Spanish town near the coast, is conveniently located just 30 kilometers from Barcelona, which can be reached by car or by train (30 minutes). The area around Cabrils is home to Spain's largest flower growers. Cabrils is also close to Mataró, an important seaside town. Once dominated by Romans, the remains of the city are well worth visiting, as is the 15th-century Basilica de Santa Maria. The Torres vineyard is also nearby. (Torres introduced modern winemaking principles that affected the whole of Spanish winemaking.) The vineyards to the north of Barcelona produce the Alella district wines; some… more

Trip details

El Pino is a villa with Old World charm. The white house was built at the beginning of the 20th century. Palm trees line the gated entrance, and the garden is filled with hydrangeas. The fenced-in pool (10x15 meters) has plenty of lounge chairs for relaxing. An antique wooden door opens onto a large marble entrance hall. On the right is a cozy sitting room with fireplace, satellite TV, stereo, and two comfortable couches. On the other side of the hall is a large dining room with antique furniture and a table that seats twelve. Large windows with screens overlook the garden, and a glass door opens onto a covered porch, where meals can be enjoyed on summer evenings. The kitchen has been completely renovated in keeping with the turn-of-the-century style. All of the appliances are new (stove, microwave, fridge, dishwasher, and washing machine), and the cupboards are stocked with old-fashioned dinnerware. A wooden table in the kitchen seats 12. Also on the ground floor is a double room with two twin beds, an antique dresser and built-in closets. At the end of the hall is an ultra-modern bathroom with shower.

A marble staircase leads to the second floor. At the top of the stairs is a full bathroom. On this floor are four bedrooms with queen-sized beds, antique bedside tables, and large inlaid armoires. A sixth bedroom has twin beds, and all of the bedrooms have floor-to-ceiling windows opening onto balconies. At the end of the hall is a newly enclosed porch with a full bathroom. The other end of the porch is open and offers lovely views of the sea. El Pino has central heating for cool weather. Although the house sleeps 12, it is probably better for 2-3 couples or a family.
