The castle is conveniently located in a small village halfway
between Figueres, home of the Dali Museum, and Girona, a small, charming walled
city with many interesting museums and restaurants. From here, the beaches and
port towns of Roses, Cadaques, L'Escala, and Empuries are within daytrip distance.
Hiking, biking, and hang gliding are available in the foothills of the Pyrenees,
within easy driving distance. Nearby are many small, unspoiled villages where
you can enjoy wonderful meals and typical Catalan lifestyle. The
world-renowned I Bulli restaurant is a fifteen-minute drive (expect to pay top
prices and reserve up to a year in advance). A superb Romanesque church dating
back to the 10th century is just a short distance away, and a lovely little church
on the village plaza is a wonderful setting for weddings and celebrations. There
is a bar in the village, and a butcher where you can buy good meats and basic
supplies. Surrounded by beautiful countryside, the castle
offers views to the mountains and beyond. As you enter through the magnificent
portals, you will be struck immediately by a sense of peace and tranquility as
you embark on the adventure of living in your very own castle. A large terrace
is built on several levels, with inviting chaises and a table with an umbrella
for enjoying a meal al fresco after a wonderful day exploring the Spanish countryside.
Inside, a summer kitchen has all the amenities you will need to prepare simple
meals. On the ground floor, a magnificent banquet hall
is a spectacular setting for grand celebrations. Enjoy a game of backgammon or
cards in the games room. The owners have taken great care in renovating the windows
so that each room of the castle is filled with light. The enormous salon, dominated
by a large fireplace, is filled with comfortable furniture and outstanding antiques.
A stunningly decorated queen-sized bedroom, sitting room, and en suite bath is
set into the arches. On the second floor, there are two
dining rooms - one with a round table seating twelve, and one in a less formal
setting, with a rectangular table seating eight. The fully equipped kitchen features
many modern conveniences. Also on this floor are three large en suite bedrooms.
One is a stunning suite with a fireplace, twin beds and bath with Jacuzzi. The
other two are comfortable twin-bedded rooms, each with its own bathroom with shower. On
the third floor, there are four bedrooms, one with a queen sized bed and the others
with twin beds, which can also be made up as kings. Two of the rooms have bathrooms
in the hall; the other two are en suite. There is a washing machine, dryer, iron,
and ironing board on this floor. On the fourth floor there is another
large living room, as well as two bedrooms (all twins) and two baths, one with
tub and one with shower. The house offers every convenience of modern
life, including hair dryers, two telephone lines, central heating, satellite TV
in each room, high speed internet access, and a fax machine. All of the rooms
on the third and fourth floor have ceiling fans. Attention:
be aware that the village church bells chime at intervals throughout the night.
"Our experience was nothing short of magical,
and we're dying to go again. One of the best vacations we've ever had." —
