Buenos Aires / Ushuaia, Argentina
This morning you’ll fly to Ushuaia, the world’s southernmost city. As you’ll discover on a driving tour, this once-desolate “World’s End” is now a lively international scene. Then, embark your comfortable cruise ship and settle into your cabin. The ship’s staff will welcome you aboard and describe what lies ahead as we cast off for Antarctica!

Cruising Antarctica
Your Antarctica adventure begins with a cruise across the legendary Drake Passage. As you cruise, enjoy a series of lectures by the onboard team of expedition leaders/naturalists about the wonders that await.
Our destinations are the South Shetland Islands and the Antarctica Peninsula, the tendril of land that reaches towards South America. Aboard the highly maneuverable m/s Nordnorge — the perfect vessel for this kind of cruising — we’ll explore among the many islands, bays, and channels. Get your camera ready for the penguins, seabirds, whales, seals, and other creatures we’re sure to encounter! The narrow, glacier-lined Lemaire Channel, for example, is one of Antarctica’s most beautiful passages, with excellent viewing of humpback whales, killer whales, and elephant seals.
Numerous guided shore landings by sturdy PolarCirkel boats are planned. The exact landing spots are determined by the weather, but you may visit —
- Yankee Harbor on Greenwich Island: Backed by a huge ice cliff and home to gentoo penguins.
- Half Moon Island: Look for chinstrap penguins, kelp gulls, and Antarctic terns. Whales are often spotted, too!
- Whalers Bay on Deception Island: Known for its warm springs, and black volcanic sand.
- Paradise Harbor: View spectacular ice cliffs and glaciers.
- Cuverville Island: Marvel at wave-carved icebergs. Also contains Antarctica’s largest colony of gentoo penguins.
- Port Lockroy: The southernmost point of our voyage was a British submarine detection base during World War II .
Leaving Antarctica on Day 11, we cruise north — ahead waits Cape Horn and the Chilean Fjords!

Cape Horn, Chile / Cruise Beagle Channel / Puerto Williams, Chile
Today we reach Cape Horn — the dramatic southern tip of South America — where we’ll set ashore in our trusty PolarCirkel craft (weather permitting). Then, sailing into the famous Beagle Channel, you’ll visit Puerto Williams, a remote outpost among glaciated peaks.

Cruise Chilean Fjords / Patagonia
Continuing through the Beagle Channel, we reach Patagonia and the spectacular Chilean Fjords. You’ll be among the few to visit this wild and remote region!

Puerto Natales, Chile
Our voyage continues to Puerto Natales, in the heart of Patagonia. We’ll overnight here aboard ship. You’ll have the opportunity to take an optional excursion to magnificent Torres del Paine National Park in Patagonia.

17-18
Cruise the Magellan Strait
Departing Puerto Natales in the afternoon of Day 16, your ship, either the MS Nordnorge, cruises the Magellan Strait, the 350-mile passageway between the Atlantic and the Pacific that Magellan discovered in 1520.
On Day 16, you’ll view tiny Tucker Island, home of a colony of Magellanic Penguins. Look for cormorants, southern dolphins, and sea lions!
