You’ll begin your remarkable cultural and ecological tour with an overnight flight, arriving on Day 2 in sunny Rio de Janeiro. Your excellent Superior First-Class hotel is located right on legendary Copacabana beach. In the afternoon, after you’ve had time to rest up and refresh, your explorations begin with a city tour that takes you to the heart of downtown Rio. You’ll view such landmarks as Candelaria Church, the Opera House, Carioca Square, and the 17th-century Church of Santo Antonio. The highlight is a cable car ride to the heights of Sugarloaf, the massive granite mountain that overlooks the city and the harbor, where you can take in the magnificent views. This evening, enjoy a Welcome Dinner at the hotel.

Rio de Janeiro

All aboard for a spectacular ascent of Rio’s “other mountain” on Day 3. You’ll board the famous cog train to the top of Corcovado, where the towering Christ the Redeemer statue gazes over the city with outstretched arms. The afternoon is free to explore on your own. The evening is at leisure or join our optional “Rio by Night” tour that begins with a barbecue dinner, followed by a thrilling Carnival Show featuring skilled dancers, extravagant costumes, and pulsating rhythms.

Delve into Rio’s 400 years of history on Day 4, as we visit the city’s historic center for a “Colonial Rio” tour. You’ll see fabulous examples of baroque architecture, including the Royal Palace and the National Historic Museum. The afternoon is at leisure or join us for an optional Guanabara Bay boat tour.

Costa do Sauipe, Brazil

Fly north on Day 5 to Salvador, Brazil’s most historic state. It’s the center of Afro-Brazilian culture, known for vibrant music and stunning beaches. En route to the hotel in Costa do Sauipe you'll enjoy a panoramic tour of Salvadore including a visit to the Bonfim Church. Dinner is included at the hotel tonight.

You’ll have Day 6 free to relax, stroll the private beach and visit the nearby fishing town. Or, join one of the many activities organized by the hotel designed to give you a taste of the local culture including cooking classes and dance demonstrations. Dinner is included at the hotel tonight.

Experience more of Salvador’s enchanting history and culture, as you return to the city for an overnight stay. On the way to the hotel, you'll enjoy a historic city tour. Visit the Mercado Model, where you can buy the famous bahian handcraft and laces, take the Lacerda Elevator to view Baía de Todos os Santos (All Saints Bay), walk through the cobblestone streets of the Pelourinho district, the city's historic old town, San Francisco Church, and Pelourinho Square. You’ll also enjoy dinner at the hotel.

Amazon & Rio Negro Cruise

Head for the heart of the Amazon on Day 8! After lunch in Manaus, you’ll embark for an all-inclusive Deluxe 7-night cruise aboard a luxury river vessel, enjoying a spacious outside cabin with balcony. For 7 nights, you’ll discover the wonders of the Amazon and its major tributary, the Rio Negro, but in a style reminiscent of a luxury river cruise or a stay at a Five-Star resort. All of your meals and snacks are included, as well as all beverages, wine, and cocktails.

Every day, a host of activities are scheduled, and you can do as much or as little as you like. For example, settle into one of the ship’s comfortable, nimble launches, accompanied by a naturalist, then go skimming into the Amazon’s unique igarapes, or flooded forests ... enjoy bird watching expeditions and photo safaris ... set out for short nature hikes ... and visit remote river villages.

You’ll also see the remarkable pink dolphins of Novo Airao. And on Day 12 you’ll explore Manaus, a jungle city that prospered at the height of the rubber boom. You'll enjoy a walking tour in the morning to the local market in Manaus. Then after lunch on board ship, you'll have a city tour of Manaus featuring the famous opera house. You'll also view the legendary “meeting of the waters,” where the dark flow of the Rio Negro meets the lighter colored Amazon.
