Itinerary
Day 1 | Arrival Day
We will meet you at the airport in Dubrovnik or a hotel in the city and transfer you directly to the island of Mljet and the lovely hotel Odisej in Pomena and the National Park of Mljet. A ferry ride is included. (hotel info below). Upon arrival you will have an orientation, meet your guides for the week, and then free time. Dinner included tonight - buffet all you can eat style. (D)
Day 2 | Hiking to Montokuc and Polace
After breakfast, you will start your morning hike. Walking along the lakes and up to Montokuc hilltop, the highest peak in the National Park affords a breathtaking view of Mljet Lakes and islet of St Mary.
After a short break, the path leads to ancient port of Polace. Sheltered by tiny islets, Polace is home to early Christian Basilica and Old Roman palace dating from 2nd century. An hour walk back to the hotel.
Buffet dinner at the hotel. 3-4 hours hiking. (B,D)
Day 3 | Biking in the National Park and Boat Ride to St. Mary’s islet
After breakfast, you will hae a moderate bike ride through the village of Govedjari, and an easy ride to the village of Pristaniste. From Pristaniste to the fishing village of Soline it is an easy ride along the famous Mljet lakes. Pathway covered with pine forest leads to Little Bridge, a narrow sea passage that connects two lakes.
Following later, you will have a boat ride to the islet of St. Mary to visit its magnificent Benedictine monastery founded here in the 12th century, built on the foundation of a fortified structure dating more than 2,000 years ago. This secluded monastery was home and inspiration to many famous Benedictine writers and scientists. Return to the hotel; buffet dinner. (B,D)
Day 4 | Odysseus Cave and Village Babino Polje
After breakfast; morning departure by boat with a 2 hour ride along southern Mljet coastline to the famous Odysseus cave. The ancient Greek poet Homer, writes about this location in his most famous work – Odyssey. Follow an uphill path that passes near thousand years old olive groves. Visit the church of St. Vlaho along the way.
Olive oil production is centuries old tradition on island of Mljet. You can later visit a 200 year old olive oil mill and then the visit is followed by lunch prepared in authentic village tavern. After lunch minibus ride to coastline walking trail which leads via Soline village back to hotel. Buffet dinner at your leisure back at the hotel. (B,L,D)
Day 5 | Village of Blato and Fishing Village Kozarica
Breakfast and then minibus ride to Blato. Blato is one of the largest villages on Mljet, locally known for its wine. From Blato you have a moderate walk to fishing village of Kozarica, a location that serves as a monument to man’s struggle with nature for fertile land. From Kozarica 5 km of trails provide for easy walk through pine forest and fields. Pick up by minibus and return to hotel. Optional longer walks possible. (B,D)
Day 6 | Korita Village and Picnic on Limuni Sandy Beach
Breakfast. Minibus transfer to the village of Korita to visit the church of Our Lady of the Hill from the 15th century and St. Vitus church. Drive to village of Saplunara and its beach, followed by an easy walk to secluded sandy beach Limuni, for swim and picnic lunch. Return to the hotel. (B,L,D)
Day 7 | National Park Coastline Hiking Tour
After breakfast you will start from the hotel in Pomena. The trail leads over the hilltops separating Mljet lakes and the open sea. Along the path, you have a surprising birds eye view of limestone cliffs above blue sea, hidden bays and coastline covered by thick forests. 3-4 hour hike in total with return to the hotel. Farewell dinner tonight. (B,D)
Day 8 | Departure Day
Today you can depart after breakfast at your leisure, transfer to the Dubrovnik airport included. Additional stays in Dubrovnik possible. (B)
