Itinerary
Day 1 – Arrive Arusha, Tanzania
Tour departs: Kilimanjaro International Airport. Transfer to your hotel and get a good night’s rest. Africa travel is truly one of the world’s greatest adventures – and it begins with the departure of your Tanzania family safari in the morning.
Lodging: Serena Mountain Village, Arusha, Tanzania
Day 2 – Explore Tarangire National Park
One of the best places in Africa to spot elephants, Tarangire National Park is also home to large populations of other African animals, such as zebras, buffalo, giraffes and wildebeest – which, according to African lore, was put together by the Creator using spare parts. Keep your camera handy as you ride through the park accompanied by an experienced local guide. Your guide knows the animals’ habits and will help you try to glimpse them from the best viewing spots at a particular time of day. Meet fellow adventurers at our welcome dinner tonight.

Day 3 – Join Safari Game Drives in TarangireGiraffes
In Africa travel by open-topped safari vehicles that ensure a great view for everyone during morning and afternoon game drives. Go in search of the abundant wildlife that calls Tarangire home. You may see big cats lounging under a baobab tree in the heat of the day or elephants seeking the cool refreshment of a watering hole.

Day 4 – Experience a Different Sort of Habitat at Lake Manyara National Park
Enjoy one more exciting game drive in Tarangire National Park before setting off to somewhere quite different. See the ecologically varied woodlands, forests, grasslands and swamps of Lake Manyara National Park. The unusual tree-climbing lion lives here, as do many other animals and bird species. Your guide will help you look for them during this afternoon’s game drive.

Day 5 – Learn About Tribal Life at Mto wa Mbu Village
After a morning nature walk, visit the fascinating village of Mto wa Mbu. Discover what day-to-day life is like for the people of the more than 100 different tribes living in Tanzania. Your Africa travel adventure would not be complete without a visit to Ngorongoro Crater. Your hotel is built right into the dormant volcanic rim of the crater.

Day 6 – Keep an Eye Out for the Big Five in Ngorongoro Crater
Here in the Ngorongoro Crater, you’ll have a good opportunity to “collect” all of the Big Five, because they all are usually found in the Crater’s diverse habitat. While seeing them all can never be guaranteed, keep your eyes peeled for elephants, leopards, lions, buffalo and the rare black rhinoceros. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the heart of the crater.

Day 7 - Meet the Masai and Visit Olduvai Gorge
A bumpy, unpaved road winds through the vast grasslands of the Serengeti on a visit to a Masai village. It was at Olduvai Gorge that archaeologists Louis and Mary Leakey found the fossilized remains of the oldest human – thought to be 1.8 million years old. Opportunities for game viewing await on the drive to your next safari lodge.

Day 8 – Soar Over the Serengeti in a Hot Air Balloon
One of the great joys of Africa travel is the thrill of soaring above the Serengeti’s vast savanna in a hot air balloon. Get a bird’s-eye view of the animals below you as they start their day. Another highlight of your family safari is Serengeti National Park, home to some three million large animals, and one of the best places to see hippos, rhinos, elephants, cheetahs, zebras and jackals. It is also a prime place to spot prides of lions during game drives.

Day 9 – Safari Comforts, Tented Luxury
Years ago, Africa travel meant camping out in a tent in the bush – but camping out was never like this! At Kirawira Tented Camp, you’ll stay in a luxurious tent-room with a private, shaded deck and even indoor plumbing. Perhaps you’ll see baboons as well as other creatures during an afternoon game drive. Afterward, enjoy a dip in the camp’s lovely swimming pool.

Day 10 – Game Drives in the Serengeti
As the sun rises over the Serengeti, join your Africa tour guide for another game drive and again experience life as it exists in the African bush. Day 11 – Journey Home
