Welcome! We begin our 24th year of walking adventures with an array of exciting new additions to The Wayfarers experience. Our newest walk is through Austria’s Tyrol region, travelling from Innsbruck to Salzburg. My co-founder Christopher Hague and I look forward to personally introducing you to this alpine itinerary on the new Founders’ Walk.
The Wayfarers were among the first afoot in Eastern Europe and now we add Slovenia. I know its unspoiled countryside, friendly people, and the charming capital city of Ljubljana will captivate you.
We’ve designed a new adventure across Dartmoor & Exmoor from the English Channel to the Bristol Channel. Experience two destinations with our new combination trips, Burgundy & The Loire and Tuscany & Umbria.
We expanded our walks for Women Only and added new twists to old favorites. When in Scotland we now walk a Royal Mile in Edinburgh, include the famed university city of Oxford with the Cotswolds and visit the historic city of York on our trip to Yorkshire. In Italy, Lakes Lugano and Maggiore are combined with Como on our new Italian Lakes Walk and the Tuscan Trail provides a relaxed view of history and cuisine.
Walking will always be at the heart of The Wayfarers experience but all our vacations offer options and opportunities to enhance your holiday and meet individual interests. Our Walk Leaders and Managers can arrange it all - a round of golf, a kayaking trip, horseback riding, fishing, swimming - even bungee jumping for the none-too-faint of heart! If you are interested in quieter pursuits – a museum trip, a cooking class, a chance to trace your ancestors or a visit to a local antiques shop - that can be arranged as well.
In opening up new vistas, we have a responsibility to the land where we walk, the people we meet and the cultures we are privileged to explore. We are committed to preserving environmental and cultural landmarks, which directly benefit the communities we visit. The Wayfarers support a range of projects such as the National Garden Scheme and the York Minster Fund for the restoration of this 1,000 year-old cathedral. The wild ponies of Exmoor, England’s oldest breed can be seen on our new Walk that supports their habitat. The contributions we make when visiting these and many other sites go directly towards their preservation.
While our Walks are evolving, our mission remains the same: to meet your every expectation and to provide an in-depth view of each country and culture we visit. We know you have entrusted us with a precious possession – your time - and we are committed to making your vacation an enriching, enjoyable experience.
We look forward to welcoming you in 2007,
Michael West
